What Children Hear During a Divorce

Dad said….. Mom said….

There are times in family law cases that the parties will hear from the minor child/children that the other parent said something about them……and it was not nice. Or, maybe it was about the current litigation (Dad said you are going to see the Judge tomorrow). It is tempting to want to respond when this happens. To give your side of things or call the other parent names too!

Don’t do it!

Minor children should not be used as a sounding board. Minor children should never know when the parties are going to Court. In the State of Florida, the parties have shared parental responsibility. Calling the other parent names, discussing litigation, When a case comes before the Court they look to Fla. Stat. 61.13
